"It is my pleasure to present the Grand Hotel Hunt Club; The greatest and longest continually run, private hunting club in North America. As Chairman of the Board of Directors, I express our excitement in presenting this introduction to the finest big game hunting legacy, traditions, sportsmanship and camaraderie existing today with an exceptional group of gentlemen hunters. The GHHC was founded in 1938, and has enjoyed many years of success at the Pat Johnson /EV Ranch in the Rocky Mountains of Northwestern Colorado, along the Piceance Creek Basin in the Roan Plateau since the mid 1950’s. - Chairman, Jim Hillhouse

At the Grand Hotel Hunt Club, our primary focus is on hunting the Rocky Mountain Wapiti, commonly called “ELK”. However, it is not uncommon to encounter trophy deer, mountain lion, bear and bobcat, not to mention the wily coyote. The ranch where we call home is located at the end of a short annual migration route, resulting in a large elk population and excellent hunting. The hunting area terrain is High Mountain, which can be a strenuous workout; but this is mitigated somewhat by our trusty jeeps and the eagerness of our younger hunters. This collaborative and team spirit enables hunters of all ages to join us in this incredible, not to be forgotten experience.
In addition to great hunting and a collaborative environment, you can expect to partake in the finest privately prepared cuisine. We work hard and we feast just as hard. Our private chefs are the best in the business; they work tirelessly to re-fuel us and make sure we have what we need to hunt all day long. We would say our food is rated five stars, but instead we will go with 6 points. You can expect a variety of cuisine that incorporates healthy and local ingredients. Our chefs take excellent care of us and we take incredible care of our members and guests. Please enjoy some of the information this site provides... like our recent successes, stories from the hunt, and our photo gallery, which shows more of the beautiful and private country we get to hunt in.
Now is the time to get your name on our waiting list and have the opportunity to join us for an upcoming hunt. Contact us today to be our guest, the first step in gaining membership to this legendary club.
In 1938, Morley B. “Tommy” Thompson and three of his friends came from Ohio to Piceance Creek, Colorado to hunt deer. They hunted in the west Stewart Gulch on the western slope, and made an old homesteader’s cabin their headquarters. The Stewart Gulch is on the ranch of the Oldland Brothers. Much of the territory south of the Piceance Creek in this area was the original Redd Ranch, part of which was acquired by the Oldland's.
We are fortunate to be hunting in Colorado's Northwestern Rocky Mountains, along the Piceance Creek Basin, amongst the spectacular Roan Plateau, between the towns of Rifle and Meeker. Our lease includes 17,000 Acres of priivate hunting grounds and 63,000 acres of public land, and falls within two of Colorado Division of Wildlife's game management units 22 and 31.
The Grand Hotel Hunt Club is a one of a kind club; we take care of our members and guests by providing a rustic yet upscale and incredible hunting experience. We wine and dine while getting dirty and working hard in a team centered atmosphere.
We always encourage our members to keep their eye out for potential members that can help carry on the traditions, sportsmanship and legacy of the GHHC. Guidelines for membership are outlined on this page. Membership is by invitation only, and Members may invite guests whom they believe will perpetuate the high standards of membership. If you have stumbled upon this website by chance and don’t know any members, feel free to give our Chairman a call if you are interested.
